The Friends of the London Oratory

An exhibition in St Wilfrid’s Hall of the the Corpus Christi procession illustrated by the panels of Salvatore Busuttil (1837-1839)

From 20th September until 24th September 2010, the Friends of the London Oratory are hosting an important exhibition of a large number of coloured illustrations of the Papal Corpus Christi procession during the reign of Pope Gregory XVI in St Peter’s Square.  They give a vivid sense of the spender of the Papal Court in the early 19th century.  They also show the variety of habits of men’s religious orders at the time as well as the costumes of the peasantry of the countryside around Rome.

The exhibition is being generously sponsored by Fondazione Marco Besso; however contributions towards the expenses involved in bringing this exhibition from Rome to London, will be very much appreciated.  Coming so soon after the Papal visit it will be a happy reminder of the figure of Christ in the full glory of the latter days of Papal Rome.

Details of the exhibition times, entrance fee and reception will follow next month.  Please put this important event in your diaries
